$1 BILLION Mega Millions Jackpot

Lotto fever is sweeping the nation with Tuesday night's whopper of a Mega Millions jackpot worth $654 million.  The cash option is $372 million.

But Derrick Kinney, private wealth adviser with Ameriprise Financial Services, says it's important to be realistic, adding you have a better chance becoming president or winning Olympic gold rather than hitting the jackpot.

“For people that have money that they would probably just fritter away on something else, the thrill of possibly winning could be justified, but I wouldn't take any money away from your education or retirement and make this your primary goal of becoming financially independent,”says Kinney.

“Keep in mind what you can control is saving for your goals, and with discretionary money, or money you could afford to lose or as extra, have some fun and buy a lottery ticket, but don't think of that as your meal ticket toward retirement.”

If you don't hit the Mega Millions, Wednesday's Powerball jackpot is up to $345 million, bringing the total to $999 million dollars.
