Denver has become the first city where residents have voted to decriminalize shrooms.
On Wednesday afternoon Initiative 301 barely passed with 50.6 percent of the vote. In total, 89,320 votes are in favor of decriminalizing the psychedelic mushrooms while 87,341 are against it. According to the Denver Post, The Denver Elections Division will continue accepting military and overseas ballots, however these votes typically do not hold much weight.
The goal of the initiative is to effectively decriminalize the use or possession of psychedelic mushrooms by people 21 and older. Supporters in favor of the decision presented research of potential health benefits with psychedelic mushrooms, while some residents are not so excited about the growing drug culture in the city.
Official results will be certified on May 16.
