Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air Drama Reboot In The Works

Will Smith is working to turn his iconic '90s sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air into a gritty drama series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the idea was born as a viral YouTube trailer. The 4-minute clip, which re-imagines the show as a drama, caught Smith's attention in March 2019. He reached out to Morgan Cooper, the Fresh Prince super-fan who created and directed the trailer, and brought him on board to make the idea into a real show.

The new show, Bel-Air, would be a dramatic take on the story of a street-smart kid who moved from Philly to live with his auntie and uncle in the upper-class neighborhood.

Original series producers Smith, Quincy Jones, Benny Medina, and creators Andy & Susan Borowitz, are set to return as executive producers. Netflix, Peacock, and HBO Max are reportedly all currently bidding on Bel-Air.
