Dozens of animals from Texas have been transferred to Wisconsin following the devastating winter storms.
The Wisconsin Humane Society took in nearly 75 animals after the severe weather in the Lone Star State.
Texans endured historic low temperatures, snow, sleet and freezing rain last month, state officials recognized.
The Texas animals arriving in Wisconsin include 21 cats and 16 dogs, with 35 more cats on the way this week, the organization shared on its Facebook page on Tuesday (March 9).
Here’s why Texas facilities sent around 75 animals to a new shelter, the Wisconsin Humane Society explained:
“The animals sent to Wisconsin were chosen specifically because they do not have owners looking for them; most were surrendered or were in shelter prior to the winter storm. By transporting these animals up to WHS, the Texas shelters are able to focus on pets displaced by the storm, and repair damage to their facilities.”
The Wisconsin Humane Society is housing the animals at Milwaukee, Green Bay and Ozaukee locations, and have already adopted some of them to local families.
