Don't call Grimes "mom."

The artist, whose full name is Claire Elise Boucher, recently revealed that not even her 1-year-old son X Æ A-Xii, or X for short, calls her "mother" and instead just uses her first name, per People.

"I think having a baby was a big rebirth for me, artistically. Being a mother feels weird for me to say for some reason. I don't identify with that word," she told Vogue while getting ready to attend the 2021 Met Gala. "Which is also really weird because X, he says 'Claire,' but he doesn't say 'mama' ... like, maybe he can sense my distaste for the word 'mother.'"

She added, "Which, I don't even know why I have a distaste for it, I respect it ... I [just] can't identify with it, weirdly."

Grimes welcomed her first child with boyfriend Elon Musk in May 2020. At the time, she shared the inspiration behind X's unique name, which was originally X Æ A-12 before it had to be slightly altered to comply with California state law.

"It's just X, like the letter X. Then A.I. Like how you said the letter A then I," she said. She also said X stands for "the unknown variable" while Æ is "the elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial Intelligence)," per People.

Musk, however, had a different approach to his newest son's name, saying, "It's just X, the letter x, and then Æ is pronounced Ash."
