Gunna might remain in jail for the rest of the year after his bond was denied again amid his ongoing RICO case.

According to a tweet that Billboard reporter Jewel Wicker posted on Monday, May 23, Gunna, born Sergio Kitchens, had a court hearing in which he was denied bond (again). During the hearing the prosecutors alleged that the rapper, who dropped his critically-acclaimed album DS4EVER earlier this year, is a "documented" gang member who held a "command" role within YSL. The prosecution also alleged that Gunna and Young Thug would "direct their troops" to commit violent acts. According to the judge, witness tampering is a key concern.

“The court was obviously concerned about threats and intimidation of witnesses," Gunna’s attorney Steven Sadow said. "We believe when the court hears evidence, not just the words of the prosecutor, it will find that Sergio’s release on bond will not, directly or indirectly, pose a significant risk to witnesses. We look forward to having an evidentiary hearing on this as soon as the court permits.”

Gunna's lawyer will be allowed to file a new motion for bond at a later date. His new trial date is currently set for Jan. 9, 2023. If he doesn't receive bond prior to that, the rapper will have to sit behind bars as he waits for his trial date. This is Gunna's second attempt at requesting bond. A judge previously denied his and Young Thug's request at a hear back on May 11.

Young Thug, Gunna and 26 other YSL members were named in a 56-count indictment that includes charges of conspiracy to violate the racketeer influenced and corrupt organizations act (RICO), participation in criminal street gang activity, murder, armed robbery and others. Following a raid on his home, Thugger was hit with seven more charges including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of sawed-off shotgun, sawed-off rifle, machine gun, dangerous weapon, or silencer along with three separate charges of unlawful for person employed by/associated with criminal street gang to conduct/participate in criminal activity.
