Tory Lanez's legal team has unleashed a trove of audio and video from the night Megan Thee Stallion was shot, and fans believe it refutes Meg's claim that he pulled the trigger.
On Thursday, May 29, a website called 36hourslater.com debuted numerous pieces of audio and video that weren't presented during Lanez's trial in 2022. It begins by providing body cam footage from police officers who responded to the scene on the night of July 12, 2020. In the footage, Meg tells the cops that she wasn't shot while seated on the ground. In another video from when she was in the hospital, Meg told another officer she had "stepped on glass the other day."
The website aims to cover everything that happened within the first 36 hours of the shooting. It continues by outlining the timeline of Meg's comments on the situation. Lanez's team essentially accused Megan of trying to get ahead of the narrative after she had claimed Tory spoke on it first. They cite the initial statement she posted to social media and the two Instagram Live sessions in which she addressed the situation in person and publicly named Lanez as the shooter. They claim her statements were posted before Lanez broke his silence in September 2020.
Lanez's website also tried to negate Meg's claim that there wasn't a physical altercation by showing photos of her injuries that appeared to stem from a fight. The site also focuses on the testimony of Sean Kelly, the witness who saw the incident unfold in front of his home. In newly released bodycam footage, Kelly is heard telling police that "two girls were fighting and they shot." They also highlight his testimony from the trial, in which he told the jury that they were "pulling their hair and hitting each other and it was quite violent." He also said he saw one of the girls shoot while Lanez was still in the car, and that "the shorter guy" tried to take the gun away.
Further down on the website, Lanez's legal team provides sworn affidavits from the incarcerated artist's bodyguard JauQuan Smith and Kelsey Harris' bodyguard Bradlie James. Smith testified that both Meg and Harris fought inside and outside of the black SUV that night and that he tried to stop them. He also claimed he saw the gun in Harris' hand and that Lanez tried to take it away from her. James told Lanez's attorneys that, while they were at a restaurant called "Fixins," he overheard Harris say she shot the gun three times in the air. Lanez ran over and pulled her arm down, which made the gun go off two more times.
The rest of the website claims Harris' testimony was "inconsistent and unreliable." Yet, Lanez's lawyers cited a portion of her testimony in which she confirmed she wasn't bribed by Lanez as previously reported. The website also emphasizes that Lanez's DNA was not found on the gun or the magazine. In addition, they make numerous claims about the medical facts, forensic evidence and the alleged bullet fragments that were removed from Meg's feet.
Some of the evidence Lanez's team presented was addressed during the trial in 2022. At the time, Meg admitted she lied to police so that she could protect the lives of everyone involved. "I didn't want them to kill any of us or shoot any of us," she told Gayle King. "So I just said, 'I stepped on glass.'" Shortly after the website went live, Meg's lawyer, Alex Spiro, released a statement saying there was "no new evidence displayed."
“Tory Lanez’s team can’t keep a story straight," Spiro said. "Last week, they argued that Kelsey Harris shot Megan and now, they’re claiming that Megan only stepped on glass. They continue to rehash old evidence from trial and re-package it as new information to desperately sway public opinion. There was no new evidence displayed today – simply a sad attempt from Tory’s team to copy our presentation format to peddle misinformation. It’s embarrassing that Florida Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna is integrating herself into the California criminal justice system for click-bait. Instead, she should be focused on serving her own constituents in Florida rather than chasing celebrities.”
