This story brought tears to my eyes because this type of senseless killings happen way to often. Ledajrick “LD” Cox , Carter High School's Homecoming King, Prom King, voted Most Popular, Most Good-looking and if that wasn't enough this 18-year old had big plans to play college football at Navarro or Prairie View. Cox and a few of his friends were out celebrating their graduation just hours after walking across stage when police say the group of teens pulled into a 7-Eleven in Irving, Texas. A girl in Cox group of friends was being cat-called by 3 men in a white Kia-Optima. Cox friends came to the girl's defense and Cox joined to try to defuse the situation between the two groups. Cox and his friends decided to drive away and the group of men in the Kia-Optima decided to follow them. That's when police say the white Kia-Optima pulled up beside the car Cox and his friends were driving and fired rounds into their car. 3 of Cox friends were hit but Cox was shot in the head and on his side where he died hours later at Parkland hospital. The 3 friends that were hit all survived. Video below shows Reginald Henry, Cox father, breaking down in his son's room “You know, he was my only son. That was it. He has siblings and they look up to him and they were just so happy for him just to see him happy,” said his father, “It's just over. It feels like a part of me is just hurt.”
Yesterday friends and family held a vigil at Dallas Independent School District’s Carter High School in remembrance of Cox.
