Jessy Serrata, a celebrated Tejano singer known as Mr. Iron Throat, died Friday morning.
It was confirmed on social media by his family and BNetRAdio, an online Tejano station.
Serrata was diagnosed with stage 3 kidney cancer in April. His right kidney was eventually removed. He was released home in July from Houston Methodist The Woodlands Hospital.
He often uttered his trademark phrase, "Awww, baby," during live performances to express excitement. His 2004 album "Better Than Ever" earned a 2004 Latin Grammy nomination.
Serrata was 63 years old.
