Over the weekend I had the chance to hear Meek Mill speak to the youth through an event put on by 'Reading With A Rapper' (RWAR). RWAR is a curriculum under 'Legends Do Live,' which was created to relate ELA academics with socially conscious lyrics, content and tech.
Prior to Meek's arrival, the kids were able to dissect songs off his new album and break down the lyrics to understand the importance of the literacy as well as the social consciousness behind the music. The event brought true meaning to their slogan "When Culture Meets The Classroom" by connecting the dots behind hip-hop and breaking it down in it's truest poetic form. Meek also joined in to speak to the kids about some important life lessons he's endured as well as the value in seeking knowledge and education to help throughout all aspects of life.
