Akon is on track to build his futuristic city in Uganda by 2036. The city will reportedly include skyscrapers, universities, hospitals, a resort, and recording studios. Crypto-currency Akon will be used to pay help for costs to operate the city like utilities, taxes, and services.
Akon rolled out his idea to create a “utopian city” back in 2018, with hopes that the city will provide much-needed jobs for Senegalese and also feel like a “home back home” for Black Americans currently facing racial injustices. Akon says:
“The system back home treats them unfairly in so many different ways that you can never imagine. And they only go through it because they feel that there is no other way.”
“So if you’re coming from America or Europe or elsewhere in the diaspora and you feel that you want to visit Africa, we want Senegal to be your first stop.”
Akon said he has already secured $2 billion of the $6 billion needed. Would you move?
