Texas prison guards were in for quite the surprise to find nearly $18 MILLION worth of cocaine hidden inside of banana boxes on Friday.
45 boxes of ripe bananas were were donated to the Wayne Scott Unit near Angleton from Ports of America in Freeport. What two sergeants thought to be typical fruit cases turned out to be 540 packages of cocaine coming out to a total of $17.8 million hidden inside the shipment!
The discovery came after one of the guards noticed a slight difference in how some of the boxes weighed. YIKES! That's a lot of cocaine!
The Drug Enforcement Administration, and Customs and Border Protection are both investigating, according to a prison press release.
